Greta Hammond

I was born in September - 1988 in Esquel, a city in the Andes Mountains in Argentine Patagonia.

I am a visual artist and art teacher.

I am currently researching the fusion and intersections between painting and poetic writing. This allows me to play with forms, colors and words, thinking of the artistic process as a world that unfolds as time and questions generate new images.

My artistic practice functions as a visual diary built from fragments. Through these pieces, I create affective maps born from travels, walks in nature, and scenes from my daily life. Each fragment acts as a sensitive record, a trace that transforms into an image.

I inhabit my work at the intersection between poetry and visuality, where words, sensations, colors, and diverse materialities intertwine to shape the painting process.

I seek the point of contact between what I perceive and what I feel, allowing the image to be constructed from an intuitive logic, open yet supported by some structure.

In my process, I collect and archive objects, photographs, stones, fragments of wood, and books. These materials become support, motif, or catalyst: I paint them, write on them, and transfer them to larger compositions, where they coexist like layers of the same memory.

I often work in series, fragmenting the images as if they were pages of open books. I think of painting as a collection of mobile materials: pieces that fit in a bag and travel with me, notebooks that document processes, sketches, collections of poems, and pieces that converse with one another. This way of working reflects a practice in constant flux, where the image is never presented as a closed whole, but rather as an expanding structure.

I understand art as a healing process and a path to spiritual connection, a space that allows me to represent not only what I observe, but also that which permeates sensory experience. The work is activated in relation to its surrounding context, integrating landscape, memory, and emotion as forces that give meaning to my artistic practice.
